RTG 2740
The Research Training Group (RTG) 2740 “ImmunoMicroTope”, established on 1 January 2022 under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Christian Bogdan, is a research consortium funded by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG, German Research Foundation) that consists of 11 research groups focusing on the in situ analysis of micromilieu factors and metabolites in the context of microbial infections (“immunomicrotope”).
The scientific basis of RTG 2740 is the assumption that the anti-infectious immune response and and its evasion by microorganisms are strongly influenced by the tissue context, the micromilieu components and the metabolism at the site of infection, which we collectively term “immunomicrotope”. The aim is to identify host- or pathogen derived components that shape the microenvironment in the infected tissue and thus regulate immune cell function or the persistence of non-viral infectious agents (bacteria, fungi, parasites).
The structured training programme of the RTG is designed to provide PhD students with the theoretical knowledge, specific technical skills and general research skills necessary to efficiently analyse the immune microtopic and to successfully complete a PhD thesis. It includes seminars on good scientific and laboratory practice, courses in imaging techniques, metabolomic analysis and bioinformatics, international laboratory visits, a PhD club, a series of guest lectures, an annual retreat and a biennial international symposium. Comprehensive supervision by the Project Leader and an external Mentoring Committee ensures that students develop a professional and creative mindset.
The RTG 2740 offers 14 positions per cohort for doctoral students in the natural sciences (Dr. rer. nat.), with the 2nd cohort starting on 1 January 2025, and 4 positions per year for doctoral students in medicine (Dr. med.). The latter can start at any time during the year. If you are interested, please visit our homepage for more information or contact Dr Ilka Knippertz (Scientific Managing RTG 2740) directly.
