Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Anja Lührmann

Dr. Lührmann studied Biology at the University of Leipzig, where she did her Master thesis (Diplomarbeit) in the section for Immunobiology in the Laboratory of Prof. Sunna Hauschildt. From 1999 until 2002 she worked on her dissertation in the department of microbiology at the University of Würzburg in the group of Dr. Albert Haas. During this time she studied the maturations of phagosomes containing the intracellular pathogens Rhodococcus equi and Afipia felis. After a short postdoctoral period in the laboratory of Prof. Albert Haas in the department for cell biology at the University of Bonn, she continued her postdoctoral training in the laboratory of Prof. Craig Roy in the section of microbial pathogenesis at the Yale University in New Haven, USA. Her work on the molecular pathogenesis of the obligate intracellular pathogen Coxiella burnetii was supported by a Brown-Coxe-Fellowship and a DFG Forschungsstipendium. Anja Lührmann relocated to the Medical University of Erlangen in Oktober 2009 as an independent group leader. In 2011 she received the young investigator award of the foundation of the German Association for Hygiene and Microbiology (DGHM-Förderpreis). In 2015 she obtained her Habilitation (venia legendi) in Molecular Microbiology and Immunology at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Erlangen.
In 2022 she was appointed supernumerary professor (außerplanmäßige Professorin) at Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg.
